On May 19, 2006, Zochrot toured the village of Amqa in the western Galillee together with a group of Arab and Jewish women from the north of the country. The tour was part of a series of encounters between the women, facilitated by Zochrot.
Amqa was destroyed in the Nakba of 1948. During the tour we heard testimonies and stories from two women who lived in the village and today reside in Abu-Snaan, Tufaha Natour (Umm Aazi) and Hana Natour (Umm Nayef). It was the first time they returned to visit the village since 1948. They spoke emotively about what happened during that period and recounted the traumatic events that they carry with them until today.
On the way to the mosque the women told us about the expulsion from the village and about the difficulties that followed. For the grandchildren of the refugees, as well, this was the first visit to the village.
