The Nakba is the ongoing expropriation of Palestinian land and assets. The 1948 war marks the culmination of this process: along with the horrors of war and massacres, rape and looting, the Nakba is the destruction of over 500 settlements and the forced expulsion of over 750,000 people - about 85% of the Palestinian residents in the area on which the State of Israel was established.

Learning about the Nakba is challenging for many Israelis: it disrupts the historical narrative they have been taught, but it also arouses curiosity and hope. Learning about the Nakba is an opportunity to break free from the limitations of the skewed Israeli perspective and to establish a positive relationship between Israeli-Jews and Palestinians based on equality, recognition, and accountability.

Our department of Political Education makes existing information about the Palestinian Nakba and the right of return accessible for the Jewish public in Israel and produces new knowledge, study materials and pedagogical tools.
