Zochrot’s 48mm Film Project calls upon filmmakers to submit proposals for short films (up to 15 min) addressing various aspects of historical and current challenges related to the Nakba and return of Palestinian refugees. The proposals may be for narrative/documentary/animated/experimental films addressing such issues as ongoing Palestinian refugeehood, the denial, deliberate forgetting and repression of the Nakba that is here, practices of return of Palestinian refugees, and more.

Terms and submission deadline

The proposal must include a synopsis of the film (up to two pages), a statement of purpose by the director (up to one page), as well as a CV, including a list of previous projects (these may be submitted in Hebrew, Arabic or English).

• The submission is open to filmmakers and TV professionals, artists and advanced students.
• Three selected candidates will receive a 8,000 NIS grant as well as artistic consulting throughout the production process.
• The films will premiere in December 2018, as part of the sixth 48mm Film Festival that will mark 70 years for the Nakba.

The 48mm Film Project initiated by Zochrot seeks to harness the art of the moving image to promote and encourage artistic and critical discourse about the silencing and denial of the Nakba, and practical thinking about the return of Palestinian refugees. The project focuses on producing original films by local artist and screening them in Israel/Palestine and worldwide. The high point of the project is the International 48mm Film Festival held annually at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque and the Saraya Theater in Yaffa.
