Hanna Abu Hanna was Born in Reineh, a village near Nazareth, in 1928. Lives with Samia, his wife, in Haifa  Abu-Hanna belongs to the minority of Palestinians that still lives in the homeland, and was a political activist. 

Mr. Abu-Hanna is a founding member of different fields of culture: cultural magazines, the poet society, theatre and cultural societies. He is also a dedicated educator who served for many years as the director of the OAC college, and lectured in the University of Haifa and in the Arab Teachers Training College. Abu-Hanna brought reform to the curricula and educational policies which had been long in place for 48 Palestinians. His approach connected dignity, education, culture and an international attitude. He has published 21 books of poetry, autobiography, studies and 15 books for children.

  • Founding member of the theatres "Al- Masrah an-Nahid" and "Al- Maidan Theatre" (Haifa).

  • "Al-Ghad" magazine (Haifa, since 1953).
  • "Mawaqif" magazine (Nazareth, since 1993).
  • Member of the editorial board of : "Al-Jadeed" magazine (Haifa, since 1951) and "Al- Mawakib" Magazine (Nazareth, since 1983).

Awards

  • "The Jerusalem Badge of Honor" for his poetry by the Cultural Department of PLO (1991).
  • Prize of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, Israel (1995).
  • "The Prize of Haifa" Municipality of Haifa (1998) for his autobiography "Dhill -ul-Ghaimah".
  • "The Prize of Palestine" (1999) for his autobiography "Dhill -ul-Ghaimah".
  • Prize for his literary work, The University of Bethlehem 2006.
