April 24 is the global day of commemoration of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, committed by Ottoman soldiers, denied and silenced by the Turkish state to this day.

On the same day, and for the first time, Zochrot will hold a commemorative event and public discussion about the Armenian Genocide.

We will open the evening with the screening of the documentary "Habap Fountains," telling the story of the 2011 restoration of fountains in a former Armenian village in Turkey. This project mobilized many Armenians around the world who took part in the restoration work, joined by current (Muslim) residents of the village. In the course of the project, participants learned about the suppressed history of their living hometown (60 minutes, English subtitles).

Following the film, Prof. Yair Oron will briefly lecture about the Genocide from a historical perspective and discuss its ongoing official denial by states around the world, including Israel.
