Every year, Zochrot organizes an alternative gathering to counter the Israeli Independence Day celebrations, providing a space for reflection, resistance, and solidarity. In May 2024, amidst the ongoing and devastating genocide in Gaza, Zochrot held a powerful event titled Refuse to Accept This as Normal. This public community gathering served as both a symbolic act of defiance and a platform for collective creativity and healing.

The event was designed to challenge the normalization of violence, occupation, and erasure. It began with a land acknowledgment and a brief historical overview of the area’s significance, setting the tone for a meaningful exploration of resistance. The centerpiece of the gathering was a creative fanzine workshop led by Chen Amram.

In the workshop, participants were invited to channel their emotions, frustrations, and hopes into artistic expression. Using a variety of materials, they created zines that imagined alternative realities to the current unbearable situation. These zines became visual narratives of resilience, envisioning a world free from oppression and rooted in justice and equality.
